BIG ISLAND GOLF
There are 16 publicly accessible Big Island golf courses, including the southernmost golf course in the United States, the highest Hawaii golf course, and a historic nine-hole track along the beautiful Hamakua Coast.
Kona Country Club
Our condo is on the 18th fairway of the Ocean Course of the Kona Country Club, one of the two spectacular courses there. This course sits right along the Pacific Ocean and has beautiful mountain and ocean views. Its sister course, the Mountain Course offers panoramic views of the Kona coastline and is criss-crossed by ancient lava flows. You will encounter Hawaiian culture and wildlife on both courses and both are suitable for beginners and advanced golfers alike. As a guest at our Kona condo rental you will enjoy a resident's golf discount.
The Ocean Course was designed by William Bell and built in 1966. You'll enjoy spectacular natural beauty and obstacles including water features and stark lava rocks and flows. The 13th hole even has a puka, or blow hole, and humpback whales can often be seen offshore from November through March. This course was picked as one of the top 100 courses by Golf Digest and Golf for Women Magazine. Zagat Guide recognizes it as one of Nation's top championship golf facilities, and it has been rated "excellent" by players in America's Top Golf Courses.
The Mountain Course is more challenging and is a little cooler than the Ocean Course because it is situated on the slopes of the Hualalei volcano. Holes 13 through 17 are reported to be the best five consecutive holes in Hawaii golf. No. 7 on the front nine, one of Hawaii's toughest par-4s. It typically plays into the wind, with water hazards on both the golfer's tee shot and approach, but the real challenge is to drive between two lava-rock formations.
Several courses are located nearby at the world-renowned Kohala Coast resorts of Waikoloa, Mauna Lani and Mauna Kea.
